F2 Entrance Instructions

We are now asking that children are dropped off and collected from the rear Foundation Stage gate! Follow the coloured fence around until you reach the gate. Children will walk to us at the door so that we are socially distanced from adults and vice versa at home time.
Please see the video to show the rear gate and where to stop.
-Follow the coloured fencing
-Keep your distance- lines will be painted on the floor to help you form a socially distanced queue
-Keep left to allow foot traffic to pass
-Continue to follow the one way route
-For siblings, first drop off/ collect from the playground then follow the coloured fencing for your F2 child.
-Do not enter into the Foundation Stage outdoor area

Thank you so much for your support!

Hello and welcome to the Foundation Stage

Our Foundation Stage begins with Foundation Stage 1 (FS1).  The FS1 children join us for either a morning, afternoon session or a full day. The children start FS1 the term after they turn 3 years old. In September of the academic year that children have their fifth birthday, they begin Foundation 2 (FS2). These children form our FS2 and attend school full time.

What do we Provide?

Foundation Stage 2 Provision for full time pupils

(Pupils who are aged 5 or will be celebrating their 5th birthday in this academic year) All day FS2 8.50am – 3.15pm.  Pupils attend school all day.  Free School Meals are provided. FS2 pupils are able to attend our Breakfast Club and After School Club, please enquire at the School Office.

All Day Foundation Stage 1. 9am – 3.00pm – 30 Free Hours

(Doors open at 8.40am) Working parents/carers of 3 and 4 year olds may be eligible for a further 15 hours per week of free childcare in addition to the existing free 15 hours. This is known as the 30 Hour Entitlement. Please also see www.nottinghamshire.gov.uk and www.childcarechoices.gov.uk for full details regarding the eligibility criteria.

*You will need to reapply for this every 3 months.

** A £4 charge will apply for children attending FS1 all day to cover the cost of childcare whilst the children have lunch.

Top up Foundation Stage 1 Afternoon/Morning Session

(For children not accessing the 30 free hours)

If your child attends FS1 in the morning or afternoon, you also have the option to attend an extra session each day.  For a charge of £20, your child can stay for the afternoon or morning on top of their usual session.

The Foundation Stage Curriculum

In the Foundation Stage, we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum and work towards our Early Learning Goals. We work hard in an environment that is carefully planned, exciting and stimulating. Our environment is designed to support the seven areas of learning and to help us explore the world around us to become independent learners. We use daily dollops 3 times a day in F2 to bring learning on during focused adult led interactions.

Tapestry

We use Tapestry to make our observations of the children during their play. We take a photograph and share this with you weekly. You can make your own Tapestry account by giving us your email address, then we can link you to your child’s profile.

Important Information

Start and finish times

  • Our day starts at 9am. Please line up outside the red hall door and wait for the class teachers.
  • Pick up for morning children is 11.50. Please wait at the school gate to be let in by the class teacher.
  • Drop off for afternoon children is 12.20 and pick up for afternoon and 30 hour children is 15.00.
  • Please remember that if your child has a sibling, you will need to pick them both up at the later time – this will either be 15.15 for KS1 children or 15.30 for KS2 children.

Homework

  • Homework will be sent out half termly via Tapestry. We will set a range of activities for the children to complete and they can do as many as they like. Please upload photos of them completing the activities to Tapestry for us to see.

Nature Detectives

  • Each Friday we will become Nature Detectives, spending the day outside completing a range of fun nature activities! Please dress your child in comfortable clothes that you don’t mind them getting a little dirty! Please also provide some wellie boots that you can leave in school – that way we can use them both for nature detectives and for outdoor play in the week.

Learning

  • We have scheduled learning sessions called our ‘daily dollop’ each morning and afternoon. They will often involve a topic-based activity that is intended to focus on one of the key early learning areas. They will often last between 10-20 minutes, depending on the focus.
  • The majority of our learning in Foundation Stage 1 is done through play. We have various areas within the Nursery (as you can see from our photos) that are intended to encourage role-play, mark-making, mobility and water play. The observations we upload through Tapestry will describe important moments captured during play that show learning and development. We aim to upload at least one Tapestry observation per child each week.

Autumn topic and learning

  • For the first two weeks, our whole-school topic is Nature Detectives. We will be making bird feeders and a finger-painted butterfly mural for the sensory garden outside.
  • Our topic this half term is ‘All About Me’ so we will be focusing a lot on getting to know the children and talking about what makes them individual. Our focus book is ‘Super Duper You’.
  • We will be introducing the children to our classroom rules by using Mr Potato Head. He encourages us to do good looking, good listening, to use quiet mouths, kind hands and walking feet. Together we are going to make a classroom display focusing on these rules.

Things to remember…

Please remember to write your children’s name in all items of clothing and shoes. This will help us greatly when getting the children changed and when they are coming in and out of the soft play area.
