Reading in Foundation 2

Children in Foundation 2 have daily story time including, non-fiction, fiction and poetry/nursery rhymes. The curriculum is centred around themed books which progress throughout the year. English “daily dollop” sessions are taught daily in Foundation 2 focussed on the themed books. Little Wandle is taught daily starting at 10-minute lessons in Autumn 1 and gradually increasing in time as they progress through the graphemes. Reading sessions take place twice a week in small groups. These sessions are with fully decodable books focussing on, decoding, prosody and comprehension.

Reading at home.

Children are expected to read a minimum of three times a week. Children are awarded certificates for 20, 50 and 100 reads. They will come home with a fully decodable book that they will be able to read to an adult and a beautiful sharing at home book. The sharing at home book is for them to share with an adult and will not be decodable for the children.
